Custom Website: Emmy Singer

Did you pivot during COVID? So did Emmy. She took her creative strategy experience across many different industries: from entertainment, to small business and even opened her own yoga studio Inner Light Yoga.

A preview of Emmy Singer's website in greyscale.

Even though she made the tough choice to close, she continues to help other studio owners, small businesses and organizations with a social mission to create a framework that is made of simple and sustainable steps, so that you can focus on tending to heart of your business.

Since Emmy is a brand strategist, she has already created a brand identity and assets prior to us connecting. And it became such a FUN collaboration!

Emmy is a bad-ass brand strategist and is intentional in every step I felt like we were collaborating in such a seamless way to highlight her brand and vision in the best way possible.

To determine the layout of the site:

1) We identified a user flow by determining 4 main pages on the site:

  • Home

  • About Me

  • Services

  • Contact Page

2) Using the existing brand identity kit and assets that Emmy has developed, we incorporated elements that could enhance the geometric appeal of this site by using adjusting the image corners into geometric shapes. We incorporated color blocking in page sections to highlight the multi dimensional nature of her branding services.

3) Incorporated a working acknowledgement statement of the site. Thanks to Tristan (we love you!), who are mentors to both of us, we've incorporated a working Acknowledgement statement to disrupt social norms and also name identities that has been socialized as normal.

This typeface, just like us, highlights the intersections and the juxtaposition between curves and points. If you geek out over the subtle details, you can read more about this typeface here. You can see this expression of contrast in the letters M and created by their founders when it was used for IBM.

Why did we choose Squarespace?

1) Squarespace makes it really easy to create accessibility for the website visitors. For the images, we added image ID descriptions and we made sure that all fonts were above 16px for easy reading. Using Color.Adobe, we checked color accessibility rating to be AAA. Each button has a clear call to action that is easily heard by Screen Readers. To read more about accessibility, read this blog on Squarespace about their commitment to accessibility.

2) Because Emmy is thoroughly familiar with Squarespace, having created Inner Light Yoga on this platform, we stayed on Squarespace's platform and spiced it up with some CSS coding that separates her site from other SQ templates.
